Seriously.
I mean, I’m right in the middle of editing a fantasy novel about witches and shadowy corporate conspiracies, I have TWO other first drafts waiting to hit the editing table behind that one, and all I can think about are robots.
I suppose it comes from a glut of science fiction mixed with real news about robots and AI from tech giants and tiny think tanks alike. Doing everything from regenerating tissue to building homes on Mars, our friends of the future represent an exciting window into a time when creation and automation know no limits.
One of my favorite shows of all time, Battlestar Galactica, envisions a scenario where creation surpasses creator. Much of our entertainment follows that same route, perhaps exposing our own contempt for the ethos of our leaders and even ourselves. As science fiction has always done, it uses technology to tell stories about the regular, every day people in our lives. Isn’t that what all our stories do?
It sounds cheesy, but I have very odd, vivid dreams full of adventures I couldn’t have in real life. Dreams where I fight zombies, perform magic, or find myself surrounded by sentient robots awakened for some nefarious purpose. One such dream came to me a few weeks ago, and Only Human was born. I’ve been having an amazing time writing it, with no plans to stop any time soon. So if you like robots, sci fi, dystopian fiction, or any and all of the above, please check it out! Part 5 is out now, with Part 6 soon to follow.
